Making your wedding stationery stand out can sometimes be tough, many things have been done before but sometimes we overthink it and are trying to change everything when all it takes is just one thing that's unique to you.

If you're struggling with how to make your stationery stand out from the crowd, here are 5 easy ways to take it from fine to fabulous.

Why make your stationery stand out?

Before we dive into the 5 ways, why should you even bother? After all, it's only a piece of stationery right? Well, take an invitation, this is the first taste of your wedding your guests will get and sets the tone for their expectations. An invitation isn't only a lovely keepsake, it gears up excitement for the day ahead and opens up the story of your wedding in a personal way. Or, maybe it's a table plan or sign you're wanting, well this is an entrance into your beautifully decorated venue, it needs to be seen to direct guests but it also needs to compliment the vibe and style of the day, giving them a warm welcome into your little world.

So, if you're ready to explore how to add something special to your stationery, read on.

1. Consider the finish

A printed item is fantastic when done right, maybe it's full of colour or maybe you've gone the minimal route, but what about extra finishes? There are ways to add to the print finish to elevate a design, make it more striking and maybe add a little shimmer.

Consider adding a laminate layer for a polished sheen, velvet for texture, maybe even foil for some shine, glitters or gold leaf for dazzling sparkle, embossing for depth or even using a white ink for brightness.

2. Layout

When it comes to design although there only seems to be left, right or centre alignment options, there is a lot we can do with layout. Consider splitting information into sections, using creative bullet points, using dividers or boxes or maybe even opt for a mix of justifications (i.e. some text right aligned and some left for juxtaposition).

Here's an example, maybe you're having a horseshoe layout in your room and don't want the traditional table plan layout of lists of names. So, why not display your names in a horse shoe shape and maybe play around with the angles of the names. It's fun, creative and will actually make it easier for guests to know where to sit when they enter the room.

3. Personlisation

Making your stationery personal will instantly make it stand out from the crowd because it will always be unique. Consider adding your initials or names onto a wax seal, using printed ribbons, adding personalised tags or including photos to really add a unique touch. Or maybe take a photo of your venue and turn it into a sketch to be used across your stationery suite.

4. It's all in the details

Stationery doesn't just have to be flat. Whether it's an invitation, menu or sign, consider adding layers or embellishments to add depth and detail. For example you may add tassels, bows, dried flowers, or maybe add backing colours/materials and layer them together for added effect. You could even use contrasting colours to really pack a punch.

Really the key here is to choose something that A) goes with your style for the day but B) is also very you, don't choose something just because it's out there, choose it because it helps shape your story and tells guests a bit more about your relationship together. Maybe that's a symbolic charm or pendant, or maybe it's comic strip characters, but always keep it in line with your day and who you are as a couple.

5. Finishing touches

The magic of stationery doesn't stop at the item, it's how you box it up. What do I mean? Well, have you considered adding fancy envelopes, liners, or wax seals to your invitations to add a little theatre when guests open them. Or have you considered how you're going to display your table plan or sign, maybe you could add florals and foliage, maybe you're hanging cards from something, or maybe you could make it interactive.

Make sure that when you place that sign in the room it's going to add to the day not take away from it, and that it compliments everything surrounding it.
