Are you torn between colour schemes for your big day or don't know where to start? Here are this year's top 10 colour trends that might just work for you. Whether you're a bright or pastel lover there's something for everyone.

When choosing a colour scheme for your wedding it can feel like the possibilities are endless, and believe me, I've been there! It can seem as though you find something then the next minute another colour takes your fancy and it's like starting over again. Well, don't worry, I'm breaking down the top 10 wedding colour trends this year to help you in your search. Remember though, it isn't about what's popular or what others think you should choose, it's about what you and your partner love and makes you happy, so go with your gut and don't worry about what others think, it'll relieve the stress and make planning all the more exciting.

Let's get to it...

1. Greens and Foliage

We've all seen the new trend of greens and foliage keeping the whole wedding really clean and natural. Most of you will remember Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding with the white and green natural look, how beautiful was it?! The thing is, sometimes less is most definitely more and the foliage look proves this 100%. The best part of course, it doesn't clash with anything so even if something's slightly off colour on the day, no one will bat an eye.

2. Dusty Rose and Blush Pink

An increasingly popular colour choice is either a dusty rose or a pale blush pink, both beautiful colours in their own right. Possibly a more feminine choice but pink is a colour of love, passion and beauty, so perfect for a wedding basically. These two pinks in particular are very soft and delicate so can work very well in the Spring and Summer months as a pastel colour to lift darker colours. You'll also often find these colours mixed with rose gold, navy and gold.

3. Purples

Oh I love purple, (if you can't tell from my website!) Purples of all shades are in this year, from cadbury to lilac and lavender, purple will bring a calming, peaceful vibe with it's de-stressing nature and appeals to most skin tones to make it easier when finding bridesmaids dresses. It's also a very royal colour so if you want to feel like royalty for a day, purple is your pick. It's not quite as feminine as pink so it might keep those who aren't pink lovers a bit happier too. Now when mixing purple with other colours be careful not to drown it out, a darker purple, even aubergine will look lovely with just about anything lighter (don't do the orange and purple look though, yuck!) but, lighter purples will very quickly look washed out, especially when mixed with other purples, blues and pinks. If you plan on mixing it, I'd suggest a white, cream, ivory or silver to balance the tones nicely.

4. Navy

Something borrowed, something blue (or navy)! I absolutely love navy, a personal favourite of mine which was my own wedding colour back in 2018 and is now probably 90% of my wardrobe. Navy is a lovely sophisticated colour so works brilliantly for a formal occasion like a wedding. However, it is also dark, so the best way to bring some light in is to mix it with a pastel, some of the popular choices include gold, copper, rose gold, a pale or dusty pink, white, silver or cream. Saying that, using navy with a pale or dusky blue works just as well too.

5. Black

A surprising new trend, black. Always seen as a funeral colour, traditionally it's been steered away from for obvious reasons, you don't want someone thinking your wedding is a wake! However, done in balance with white, the combination can look super classy and stunning on photos. the trick with black is to get the right shade (yes, there are shades of black just like white). Don't go for the darkest black you can find, this will likely make you look very pale when it's on your flowers, dresses and around you, so unless you're very tanned, you may look more like Morticia Addams, which is fine if you want a gothic/steampunk vibe, but most of us spend the year trying to get a tan and not look pale. Try to find a sensible black, maybe something with a sheen to it so it's not so dark especially on dresses. And make sure you put plenty of white in with it to balance it out.

6. Mustard yellow

So an unusual choice but it's been seen cropping up more and more recently, a lovely mustard yellow. I'm not personally a yellow fan, I don't find I'm lucky enough to be able to wear this lovely colour, but if you are, go for it! A lovely deep mustard yellow has such a natural and sunshiney vibe, which makes it great for Spring, Summer and even Autumn weddings. If you're looking for a light, bright and happy colour, this is the one for you.

7. Burgundy

Let's talk burgundy. It may not be obvious, but there are different shades of burgundy, so watch out for various different colours, there are tints that have a reddish brown colour, and there's a maroon or claret like purple/red. The two can be very different though so make sure you keep everything to one or the other. Burgundy is one of those colours that can go with just about anything, from orange, yellow and peach to navy, blush or gold. As much as it's most used as an Autumnal colour scheme, I have seen it many a time in Summer and Winter weddings too. Mixed with other dark colours it can create a lovely warm vibe and of course, with it being in the red family, burgundy is a colour of love and passion, perfect for a wedding. If you're going for a light and bright feel, mix this colour with pastels, whites and creams, and for that warm feel go with darks such as purple, burnt orange, navy, emerald green or gold.

8. Peach

Back to a Spring colour with peach. Now again, like other colours, there are in fact different shades of peach, so make sure you match your wedding decor to one and not all, unless you like the mix. There are orangey shades, pink shades and some that have more yellow in them, all are peach by name, but bring slightly different tones to things. As much as peach is a classic Spring wedding colour, it works just as well on Summer weddings, although there's nothing stopping you from having it on a Winter wedding if you wanted. There's no right or wrong after all, just what you like. A few mix ideas with peach include whites, creams, gold, rose gold, pinks, baby blue, mint green or darker colours such as navy, burgundy or deep purple.

9. Grey

In at 9, the greys. Now some people don't like greys, they think they're cold, dull and boring, but, if you get the right shade and mix it well with a lighter colour, it can look absolutely stunning and very classy. Now I don't need to tell you there are so many shades of grey, silver, charcoal, dove, ash, slate, anchor, pewter, smoke, graphite. The list goes on... Anyway, just pick a shade you like, if you're going for a darker shade just make sure you lighten it with a white, cream, ivory or any other light colour. If you're going for a lighter grey, be sure to not wash out the grey by mixing in other pastels, maybe go for a dusty rose, dark purple, blue or green.

10. Dusky blue

Last but not least, the underrated dusky blue. I absolutely love dusky blue done right, it brings a delicate and calming vibe and looks unbelievably sophisticated. This colour mixes best with pastels like white or cream but you could opt for a mix of light, dark and medium blues, a purple, a pastel pink, or just mix with some gorgeous foliage leaves.

So, which colour will you go for? Of course there are lots more colours out there, but hopefully this has given you some inspiration (or talked you out of a colour you thought you liked) either way, I hope it's narrowed down your list.
