3 reasons a stationery designer is a must for your wedding

When it comes to wedding stationery, there is a vibe around it that it will cost a fortune, it isn’t needed and that doing it yourself is way easier. Now, there is truth to some of this in part, that’s if you’re a keen creative or crafter that has oodles of free time and is happy to spend hours designing and creating your own stationery. BUT, if you work week to week, have a family or other things going on that take your time, it may be best to hire a stationer and ease some stress of wedding planning.

Working with a wedding stationery designer has huge benefits both for yourself and your guests, and it is definitely a worthwhile investment. Not only will it mean you have quality stationery for your wedding, but you’ll also get support and ideas to help along the way.

Ultimately though, it’s entirely your choice as to whether you DIY or hire a pro, but here are 3 reasons why you should consider working with a stationer, and of course I hope you choose me!

1. Consistency

Getting the exact same look on multiple pieces of craft is really difficult, especially with invitations for example, where there are folds, creases and finishes. Now if you’re a crafter and love getting creative with your hands, by all means enjoy making your own stationery. But, if you want a consistent look across your stationery from start to finish and a consistent design across your suite for the day itself, working with a stationery designer will ensure this with ease.

When you work with a stationer, especially with bespoke designers (like me), you’ll be able to ensure consistency all the way from size, materials, cardstocks, colour shades, print colours and quality, finish and of course the design itself. This will give your suite of stationery a luxurious, top quality look and will really bring that wow factor for your guests. It will also continue the ambience of your other wedding day décor and ensure everything looks top notch and well thought through.

2. Time & Stress

Creating anything for a wedding takes time, effort and a lot of patience. Remember that you need to research first, plan, prep, maybe create a test version, and budget. This all takes a lot of time itself, added to the hours of work required to make say an invitation suite, this soon racks up to days, maybe weeks work if you have a 9-5 job too. Then you’ve got the stress of making, designing, putting together, because let’s face it, we’re all a little on the perfectionist side when we make something ourselves.

If you’re willing to just sacrifice 30 minutes for a consultation (bar a few email exchanges!), all of the above work is done for you. A stationer will save you a lot of time and stress, and sometimes isn’t much more expensive than when you make stationery yourself.

I know from my own wedding (before I began creating stationery for a living), I spent more money making my own stationery than I would have spent if I had bought from a pro. This is because I didn’t factor in things like printer ink, card for all the inserts, the extras I wanted to add, and then things went wrong quite a lot so I had to get replacement materials too, and I needed bits of equipment In didn’t already own. I’ll be honest I loved doing it, but the cost was about on par.

The choice is entirely yours, but if you’re not a lover of crafting, or you work shifts or a lot of hours, or you don’t have too much spare time on your hands, I would definitely advise hiring a professional, even if it’s not myself.

aving you hours of creating, designing, making, scrolling through endless google and Pinterest results, just to be overwhelmed by too many options.

3. Expertise & Ideas

It may seem easy and simple but there is so much more that goes into stationery design than meets the eye. It all starts with planning and research, and by this I mean taking the wedding style and vision, and thinking about various ways these themes can be brought into a design. Sometimes you don’ t actually want to use the same florals and colours on your stationery, it may be better to opt for complimenting tones and a more minimal style, depending on the look you’re hoping to achieve. This can take hours of scrolling through google and pinterest for ideas and options, and usually you end up with so many you like, you have no idea where to start.

With a stationer, this work is done for you, leaving you more time to focus on other areas of planning.

You’ll also get more ideas and concepts to consider that perhaps you haven’t thought of. This is because when you’re wedding planning (and I’ve been there!), you get almost tunnel vision, you have this perfect idea in your head and you go, ‘yes that’s it!’. But sometimes, there are designs that have not yet been created that could be explored, and bring you something truly unique and extraordinary to your day. Or, there may be ideas you haven’t seen that may just top that original thought.

Remember that the design is more than the florals or fonts, it’s about the style, function (it needs to be useful), purpose and overall atmosphere the stationery creates. It always needs to complement your wedding day décor to enhance the beauty of everything you’ve created for the day.
