6 ways to add colour to your Autumn Wedding Invitations

Fall, the season of warm autumn hues bursting with colour and cosy evenings by the fire. But what’s so great about Autumn Weddings? Well, I for one love an autumn wedding, not just for the stunning colours but the gorgeous sunset backdrops and a temperature that’s a little easier to handle in a big white dress than those sweltering summer months.

But, Autumn weddings can be super tricky when it comes to design, and that’s where this blog can help, I’ve compiled 6 ways you can add colour to your autumn stationery that will have you fall-ing in love all over again - see what I did there?.

Let’s dive in…

  1. Print

When it comes to colour, there’s no better way to add bright hues than with ink. This is because unlike cardstocks where there are limited shades available, with ink you can choose the colour down to the exact shade you’re looking for, we can add more yellow, red, orange etc to really give it a bold look. This gives you much more scope for experimenting and combining lots of natural autumn colours together for a show stopping look.

Consider choosing contrasting lights and darks here though, autumn colours tend to be on the darker spectrum, by adding lighter shades here and there will help just to lift the design and add a romantic delicacy. Maybe add a dash of white or ivory florals to break up those burgundy and rust colours for example.

  1. Embellishments

This is the easiest way to add colour to a design. There are so many things we can use on your stationery to add depth, texture and colour, whilst maintaining a warm autumnal look. Consider additions like wax seals, ribbon or even dried autumn florals for a touch of timeless luxury and elegance.

Unlike print, embellishments will be limited in colour shades, so consider using a range of autumn colours that complement each other well, to ensure these fit with your theme perfectly.

  1. Layers

You could add layers to your stationery, such as coloured cardstocks or metallics, this will create depth but also allow you to add secondary colours for contrast. The great thing about cardstocks is the boldness of colour, so if you’re wanting those rich autumn hues, this is definitely a sure way to create a bold statement.

  1. Envelopes and Liners

Your invitations are more than just the invite card, so consider instead of white envelopes, opting for a deep autumn colour or autumnal patterned envelope liners to bring those colours in further and finish your invitation suite in style.

  1. Pockets and sleeves

Adding a sleeve, wrap or pocket can help where you want to keep the main invite more minimal. This will add block colour and bring a bold statement to the design. Remember to consider the design of the invitation first, if there’s already lots of colour on the invite itself, it may be worth not adding mor colour and overcomplicating the design, and instead opting for embellishments or envelope upgrades.

  1. Texture

Adding textures to autumnal invitations can really bring a natural and warm feel. A lot of textures often have a natural off-white hue and so will contrast well against bold colours whilst bringing a slight warmer tone than white. This also helps give any printed colours on top a slightly warmer hue, adding a cosy feel to your autumn stationery.
